Trusted Travel Gear Reviews | 2026
We put five compression bags and kits through real carry-on trips. One of them fit a week of clothes into a single bag, then did it again on the way home.

Check Out Our FavoriteAt Carry On Guide we judge travel gear on real trips, and we leave the brands’ marketing at the door. Every bag on this list was packed, compressed and carried by our team.
We packed vacuum bags and kits from 2PackBag, Ekster, Vollyc and Vacbird alongside the OverPack, and scored them on what matters at the gate: how much room they free up, whether the pump travels with you, whether the seal holds, and what happens if something breaks.
Every pick below comes from hands-on use plus a line-by-line check of each brand’s own product page.
We’ve reviewed more than 200 travel products, and this guide is what we’d tell a friend who’s tired of paying for a checked bag.

A compression bag earns its keep at the gate. We looked at how far each one shrinks a stack of clothes, and whether the flattened result still slides into a standard carry-on with room to spare.

A bag that needs a home vacuum is no help in a hotel room. We gave credit to kits with a small rechargeable pump in the box, and to bags you can still flatten by hand when the battery runs out.

Cheap vacuum bags have a habit of puffing back up halfway through a trip. We wanted an airtight zipper and a valve that keep the air out until you open it.

Thin plastic splits after a few trips. We favored nylon bags, and a warranty that covers the bag itself for longer than a season.

You shouldn’t need a new suitcase to use a packing bag. The best ones go into a carry-on, a backpack or a duffel without a fight.
Each kit we tested had a clear angle: a lower price, a bigger stack of bags or a premium name. Only one gave a carry-on traveler everything on the list: real compression, a pump that comes along, a seal that holds and a warranty that covers the bag.
It was the one we kept packing for people who want to stop paying for a checked bag for good.
In the next section, we take a closer look at the bag that set the bar in 2026: the OverPack Bag.
Find Out About Our Number 1One thing stood out right away: the pump.
Plenty of vacuum bags still expect you to find a vacuum cleaner at the hotel. OverPack puts a palm-sized USB-C pump in the box, and it sucks the bag flat in about 10 seconds. After one repack in a hotel room, we didn’t want to travel without it.

Right now the 4 Pack gets you two bags free: four bags for $129.98, with the pump included.
What We Loved:
Things to Consider:
Most compression bags get one thing right. The OverPack got all of them: a pump that travels, a seal that holds, a tough nylon shell and a warranty for life, at $64.99 for one bag.
The pump measures 3.3 x 1.4 inches and charges over USB-C. One charge covers up to 20 compressions, enough for a long trip with a repack at every hotel.
Pack it, zip it, press the button. The bag drops to roughly half its size, and OverPack puts the gain at up to 70% more space in the same bag.
If the battery runs flat, you can roll the bag from the bottom and push the air out through the valve. It takes about a minute, and the pump just makes it faster.
Flattened, it sits in the bottom of a carry-on and leaves room on top for shoes and a toiletry bag. You don’t have to buy new luggage to use it.
The bag is waterproof, anti-rip nylon with an airtight zipper, and your clothes stay dry inside it. If it breaks, OverPack replaces it under the lifetime warranty.

"I fit a full week’s worth of clothes (shirts, jackets, hoodies, joggers, socks, even a parka) into one bag with extra space left."

The closest rival, and close for a reason: the same 18 x 12 x 8 inch bag, the same 3.3 x 1.4 inch USB-C pump and the same $64.99 for one bag. It also promises a lifetime warranty and gives you 100 days to return it, with return shipping paid. It slipped on the deal: shipping is only free from $80, its biggest bundle stops at three bags for $129.99, and the product page shows no customer reviews.

Things we liked:
Where it falls short:
The premium pick, designed with Steven Bartlett of The Diary Of A CEO. The waterproof, anti-rip nylon bag has a half-clamshell opening and a see-through window, and the mini USB-C pump is rated for up to 45 uses per charge. It works with a household vacuum too. The catch is the price: $119 for one bag, and at 20 liters it holds less than the OverPack.

Things we liked:
Where it falls short:
The cheapest single bag with a pump, at $44.99. Vollyc claims up to 85% compression for its 25-liter nylon bag, and the separate pump can also inflate things and doubles as a light. Its own site lists three different return windows, though. The warranty runs one year, and US delivery takes 8 to 15 working days.

Things we liked:
Where it falls short:
The budget pick if you want a stack of bags. $37.99 buys nine zip-seal bags in three sizes plus the cordless Turbo X7 pump, which Vacbird rates for up to 90 bags per charge. These are PA+PE plastic storage bags, though, and Vacbird lists no warranty. Returns run 30 days for unused items, and you pay the return shipping.

Where it falls short:
Side by side, the OverPack ticked more boxes than any other kit we tested. Here’s how they compared:

We read through hundreds of OverPack reviews and kept the ones from people who had packed it for a real trip.
"I travel constantly and was always fighting to close my suitcase. These bags completely changed how I pack. The air pump works surprisingly fast, and I can finally bring everything I need without stressing about space."
After the packing, the spec checks and a lot of owner reviews, the verdict is clear:
The OverPack Bag is the one we kept reaching for.
2PackBag sells the same bag and pump, but shipping is only free from $80 and its biggest bundle stops at three bags. Ekster’s kit is well made and costs $119 for one bag. Vollyc is the cheapest single bag with a pump, with a one-year warranty and a return window its own site can’t agree on. Vacbird gives you nine bags for $37.99, but they’re plastic storage bags with no warranty listed.
The OverPack was the only kit in our test that ticked every box: a pump in the box, a seal that held, a tough nylon shell, a lifetime warranty, free shipping on one bag and four bags for $129.98. If you want to fit a week of clothes into a carry-on and skip the checked-bag fee, this is the one to buy.

741 OverPack Reviews
The only bag in our test with a pump in the box, a lifetime warranty, free shipping on one bag and four bags for the price of two.
2PackBag matches the bag but charges for shipping under $80. Ekster costs $119 for one bag. Vollyc and Vacbird cost less, with a one-year warranty or none at all. Only OverPack put all of it together.
